Schools in Australia always observe Anzac Day, but this year it will be in the school holidays. This book, published 100 years after the end of World War l, will be a good addition to school libraries.
There
are a number of Anzac books suitable for lower primary school children and
this one is about a child actively preparing to go to the Dawn Service
with her grandmother. Helen Evans made the original book by sewing the pictures
and hand writing the script so that her grandchildren would learn about
the significance of the day to her family. Now it has been printed as a
paperback and is available for you to buy. It is suitable for children
from 5 to 10 years.
Available from www.evansgalleryuralla.com where the original sewn book can also be seen, and from https://www.amazon.com/Anzac-Day-Lest-We-Forget/dp/1543405126/
One reviewer says,"This is
such a beautiful book. Written with so much compassion. The way Hanna
and her Nanna talk about Anzac Day, family, rosemary and remembrance is
just perfect. This book should be in every Australian primary school
library."
