Winter woes

The weather has been very wintry this month, starting with snow over quite an area of the Northern Tablelands followed by icy winds and now frosts and the drought continues.

I walked around my place this morning and here is the state of the dam; Just a picking of green at the edge for kangaroos.

This is what the normally green paddocks look like. It makes me feel sad and weary.

I've been lucky to stay well, but a lot of people have colds and coughs. Warm clothes and good heating are vital both at home and at school and don't forget the family pets. Animals in paddocks need good shelter too from winds and rain if you are lucky enough to get it. Gardens all around the district are suffering from the dryness and frosts, and the landscape is depressingly brown and bare. I don't have any large animals on my land, but the kangaroos come regularly and are finding very little to eat. More are on the roads and are at risk of being killed by traffic. Take care when driving at dusk or at night as a kangaroo can do serious damage to your car.
