Roadworks

It is Easter time and roadworks which will last for about 12 weeks, have begun on the road where I live. Safe roads are very necessary, but do roads have to be wide and straight to be safe? Must all the old trees beside the road have to be cut down? My family was dismayed to see the destruction of so many trees and some over 100 years old. I have seen evidence that koalas cross this section of road at night so this habitat has been important to them as well as to many other bush creatures. As you drive this Easter, please watch out for our bush animals, especially those like turtles and lizards that may lie on the road to get warm and kangaroos, possums and koalas that may be crossing the road after dark. Our roads are encroaching on their territory and it is sad to know that our safety puts native animals' lives more at risk.
