The creatures in our lives

Nothing looks sweeter than a possum with its bright eyes, pink nose and

soft fur and some wonderful story books about possums have become

favourites with children over the years. Top of the list is Possum Magic

by Mem Fox.

I think that every Australian early childhood centre has a copy. Other writers have written great possum stories too and Possum in the House and Possum Goes to School by Melanie Carter are two of my favourites. They show just what havoc a cute, innocent-looking possum can create. And for a feast of delightful Australian animals with amazing language I love Blossom Possum by Gina Newton and Kilmeny Niland.

I woke very early today, realizing that March is into the last week and I’ve not yet posted any story ideas for the month. The moon was bright, lighting up the garden, but it was too early to get up so I shut my eyes and rolled over. Then I heard a bump. A bump on the roof. It must be a possum and at once I knew what I’d write about for March; Possums and pets that get up to mischief. Please cick on the link to my storytelling page.
