Pony Tails

Pony Tails by Bonnie Bryant

Published by Random House 2014

Pony Tails is an ideal book for girls who like horses. It is three books in one - Pony Crazy, May’s riding Lesson and Corey’s Pony is Missing. My granddaughter who is 8 brought it from the school library and she has enjoyed it very much having to renew the loan several times to finish reading the three stories.

The three books are about the three same girls, May, Jasmine and Corey and their ponies and the pony club they belong to. For girls who belong to a pony club or go to pony camps they will love to read about familiar activities. For those many girls who would love to have a pony but who can’t, the stories enable them to get an understanding of what it would be like. There is a lot of information about the everyday care of a pony incorporated into the stories as well as what the riding instructor’s expectations will be. Friendship, adapting to family changes, safety, and bullying at school are an important part of the stories. The end of each book has a section on tips for caring for a pony.

Pony Tails is just at the right level for girls of 8 or 9 years.
