howto Word games are a great way to help children learn about their environment and their culture while expanding their vocabulary. Children from age three and four love to talk and be included in conversations and the whole family can join in simple word games. Here are some ideas.
- Rhyming games are great. Choose small words to begin with like fun, run, sun, bun and gun.
- I spy games using colours, numbers, things in the environment food etc.
- I’m thinking about something I can do with a ball, or a brush
- Spelling games when the child is given a simple word with one letter missing
- Words that begin with a given sound or letter
- An animal that can growl or hop etc.
- Feeling games such as I’m laughing because I'm happy...
Get the whole family involved in thinking of crazy games using words.
